Hemp has existed for thousands of years and has been created into many useful things such as hemp food, textiles, paper, fabrics, fuel and oil. Known as Industrial hemp, (botanical name Cannabis Sativa), it is an aromatic, erect annual herbaceous plant, growing from 2m - 5m or more in 3 - 4 months. It was legalised in Australia in 2017.
Due to its high protein content and exceptional Omega 3, 6 & 9 qualities, hemp seeds are making a market resurgence as a food source, as well as in health supplements. It can be sold as Hemp Hearts by hulling the seeds, removing the outer husk, or Oil by cold pressing the seed. These are both well-established processes with equipment available to perform this easily. A growing use overseas, and beginning in Australia, Opportunities exist in this newly established industry at several levels.
